Objectives

The conference “En route to Sustainable Aviation: from Climate Science to Mitigation Policies” is part of a multidisciplinary dialogue involving all stakeholders (scientific researchers, meteorological services, industrial players, air transport operators and public decision-makers), who must collectively address a key question: how can we reconcile the economic and strategic challenges of aviation with the imperative to combat climate change, based on climate science?
By bringing together complementary expertise and encouraging open exchanges, the conference aims to foster dialogue and shared understanding of all issues in order to help build an ambitious and credible European pathway towards sustainable aviation by 2050.

Objectives

This will be achieved by

Economic and strategic

Highlighting the economic and strategic importance of air transport for Europe, and the need to ensure its transition to a sustainable model

Scientific knowledge

Sharing the state of scientific knowledge, including uncertainties, on aviation’s climate impacts, distinguishing between CO₂ emissions and so-called “non-CO₂” effects

Mitigation levers

Identifying and assessing the most promising mitigation levers, whether technological, industrial or operational

Commitments and projects

Showcasing the commitments and projects of the aerospace industry and air transport operators, as well as their cooperation with the scientific community

Strategic priorities

Identifying and discussing medium- and long-term strategic priorities

Public policies and legislative frameworks

Presenting current public policies and legislative frameworks that support the transition to sustainable aviation and discussing their possible evolution in the coming years

Helping build an ambitious and credible European pathway towards sustainable aviation by 2050
